Theme of Special 1: Spring
Spent a night in a templar guesthouse
Valid from:
31 Dec 2008 to:
31 Dec 2008
Description of Special:
8 Centuries ago:
The history of our Templar guesthouse spans at least 800 years. The first building was established by the Templars, the monk soldiers who spearheaded the Crusades. In the XIIth century Provence was one of their supply bases for cattle, horses and cereals.
They controlled a network of farms like ours. Le Peyrourier was particularly well placed with its fertile low lands between rolling hills and the river that could carry floats of cereals to Frejus. There sailships would carry on to the Holy Land.
The St. Stephen chapel, close to the farm, was used until the middle of the XIXth century. The roof has disappeared and trees have grown amongst the walls where pilgrims used to assemble.
You can enjoy several nights in a newly renovated guesthouse with typical provence guestrooms and apartments.
Also a dinner of Mediterranean specialties are proposed several times a week in the large farm kitchen or under the stars in the cool patio. Cooking classes, garden workshops or introduction to the traditional art of quilting can be organized for small groups on demand.
