| DESCRIPTION |
|
La Galerie, charming bed and breakfast situated between the historic towns of Cahors and Sarlat, and the Lot and Dordogne valleys, just outside the pretty village of Catus in the Midi-Pyrénées, south-west France. La Galerie is set in 2 hectares of tranquil lawns, terraces and wooded grounds with a large 12 x 6 metre swimming pool and a hydrotherapy-spa, close to Cahors and the Lot valley. Awarded 3 epis by Gites de France and 3 stars by BAB France. The perfect place for a relaxing holiday or short break.
La Galerie has six stylish chambre d’hôtes, comprising double and twin-bedded rooms all with en-suite bathrooms, and each room having it's own independent access. Comfortable sitting areas with French & English satellite television in every room. Breakfast is served in the delightful gallery, full of wonderful paintings and sculptures by local artists. So guests are able to return home with a souvenir of their holiday. Evening meals are available on some evenings, served on the vine-shaded terrace. There is a large summer kitchen and barbecue with covered dining area.
La Galerie offers wonderful painting holidays in the beautiful Lot, where guests can enjoy the right mix of painting and free time to relax in the comforts of La Galerie - a swim in the swimming pool, a massage in the hydrotherapy spa - and the delights of this wonderful corner of south-west France with its many sites of beauty - all subjects for our artist guests to paint.
La Galerie is in the Pays Bouriane region of the Lot, and is 1 km from the village of Catus and the Lac Vert with beach, pedalos, canoes and fishing, tennis courts, two restaurants and a lakeside café/bar. There are also two outstanding restaurants within a 10 minute drive, plus an even wider choice within 15 minutes. Other activities here and nearby include walking, riding and mountain biking. Catus village has a good restaurant, post office, bank, supermarket, bakers, estate-agent, greengrocers, butchers, pharmacy, newsagents, florist, tourist office and bar and a popular Tuesday morning market.
There are numerous sites of historic interest nearby to visit and explore. Almost every week throughout the spring and summer, there is a festival or fete celebrating anything from medieval re-enactments to truffles and cheeses, and the local wines will be flowing. Tours of the local vineyards and chateaux along the Lot valley can be organised with plenty of tastings and wines to purchase.
Cahors, the capital of the Lot, is situated on the river Lot 12 km away, with its good selection of shops, cafés, bars, restaurants, museums, galleries and historic architecture. The beautiful 14th century Pont Valentre, the only fortified bridge with three towers, in the world, is the symbol of Cahors. The Wednesday and Saturday morning markets are stocked with local produce. Cahors is also known for its deep ruby red wines and the vineyard trail can be followed west of Cahors along the Lot valley to the beautiful medieval town of Puy-l'Eveque. St Cirq-Lapopie sits high above the Lot valley to the east of Cahors with a maze of lanes running between the attractive stone and half-timbered buildings.
The beautiful town of Sarlat, north of Catus across the Dordogne river, situated in the Dordogne, with its many attractive bastide towns, vineyards and riverside activities, is just 20 km away. Rocamadour, the most popular site in the Lot, is 30 km north of Catus, with its ramparts and houses clinging to a rock face above the Alzou gorge. Nearby, many grottos and caves can be found in the Causse du Quercy, displaying their prehistoric paintings and engravings.
