| DESCRIPTION |
|
La Maquisarde is in the heart of the forested hills of the Haut-Var. It is 20 minutes drive from the Gorges de Verdon that is the largest Canyon in Europe. With spectacular views, clean air this is an ideal area for many activities; climbing, canoeing, horse riding, walking and sightseeing of beauty spots and medieval villages.
Just below the Gorges and only 15 minutes drive from the house, is the Lac de Saint Croix and Lac Quinson. Here apart from gentle strolls you can participate in a variety of water sports (Canoeing, Windsurfing, Swimming, Sailing etc.)
If you are a cyclist you can hire bikes locally or bring your own.
Aups is a beautiful medieval Village (1 Kilometer from La Maquisarde) where there are many good and reasonably priced restaurants, pleasant walks, plenty of atmosphere and good shops and a market every Wednesday and Saturday,
During the Truffle and Olive Oil season ( November to February) there are the famous Truffle and Olive Oil fairs and the weekly Truffle Market. From April to September you can visit the local Olive Oil mill where the complex process is explained.
Aups is also the hub for visits to surrounding villages and sites of interest, for example: Villecroze and Cotignac with their troglodyte caves; Entrecasteaux with its chateau and garden, the renowned Abbey of Le Thoronet. It is only 45 minutes from the coastal resorts of St. Maxime and St Tropez.
La Marquisarde is set in its own calm and peaceful olive grove with 120 Olive trees, a pond and many other interesting features.
