| DESCRIPTION |
|
The Thomas B Snook House, listed on the Marion County Register as a historical landmark, was built in 1887 by Thomas Snook. The pioneer arrived in these parts around 1880 when he purchased 40 acres of hilltop property for $7 an acre. He may have been one of the 28 residents counted in the 1880 national census for Foster Park (now Weirsdale). Attracted to the area by the flourishing citrus trade, Snook wient about developig the business into a productive livlihood. At that same time he began work on his home & completed the grand three story Victorian masterpiece in 1887. For some time the home stood as the tallest structure from Ocala to Leesburg. The freezes of the 1980's destroyed the grove and in 1988 the house & property were sold to someone outside the family. Brantley & Anne Overcash (present owners & innkeepers) purchased the property in 1989 and in 1994 opened the Bed & Breakfast.
The Inn currently has 6 guest rooms in the main house and a lovely Victorian Cottage on the west side of the pool. Renovations have included two luxurious whirlpool baths, a heated pool, customed designed Victorian Cottage with spa, fireplace & home theater; all have private baths. |
