Looking out of the windows of this 2nd floor apartment at the Oudezijds Achterburgwal one cannot escape the impression of being in the very center of the old city. The canal is busy, but not with cars and a lively atmosphere is all around.
Inside the apartment one feels somewhat removed from all this: the morninglight plays with the leaves of the elm trees lining one of Amsterdam’s oldest canals.
This buiding is one of the many national monuments dating from the 17th century Amsterdam has.
It was long used as a ware house storing goods brought from the colonies*.
Coming up the stairs painted with fresh and bright colors, one does not expect the beautiful light and spacious loft.
Floor and walls are white with a large dining table in the middle with chairs from Ghana, once in use by Ashanti* royalty. The art on the walls by contemporary Dutch artists, and a touch of the Orient in styling complete a sense of balance and well being that one receives here.
